These interactive presentations contain the latest oil & gas production data from all 24,019 horizontal wells in the Eagle Ford region, that have started producing from 2008 onward, through October 2019.

In the first 10 months of 2019, oil production in the Eagle Ford hovered within a narrow range, just above 1.3 million bo/d.

Although lateral lengths and proppant intensity have kept increasing, average well productivity has no longer made any gains since 2017, as shown in the “Well quality” tab. In the bottom chart, which plots cumulative production versus time, by vintage, you can find that a new well recovers on average almost 150 thousand barrels of oil in the first 2 years on production, with just 1/4 of this amount produced in the 2nd year. This (150k bbl) is likely to be more than half of the ultimate recovery.

All the major operators are at or below their historical peak production, in most cases set 5 years ago (see “Top operators”).

The ‘Advanced Insights’ presentation is displayed below:

Eagle Ford Ultimate Recovery

This “Ultimate recovery” overview reveals the relationship between production rates and cumulative production. Wells are grouped and averaged by the year in which production started.

As this chart shows, the almost 2,200 horizontal wells that began production in 2018 are so far very closely tracking the performance of the wells one year earlier. More recent data can be seen if you change the “Show wells by” parameter to quarter or month of first production.

Which operators have the most productive wells in the Eagle Ford? In this screenshot, taken from ShaleProfile Analytics, you find the ranking of the operators with at least 10 operated horizontal wells, by their average cumulative oil recovered in the first 24 months. The map shows you the location of all these wells, colored by the same metric:

Devon is in the lead, with an average recovery of over 220 thousand barrels of oil in the first 2 years.

Early next week, we will have a new post on all covered states in the US. The rest of next week, we will be in Houston to present our analytics and data services at the NAPE summit. I would be honored if you stop by for a chat.

Production and completion data is subject to revisions, especially for the last few months.

For this presentation, I used data gathered from the following sources:

  • Texas RRC. Production data is provided on lease level. Individual well production data is estimated from a range of data sources, including regular well tests, and pending lease reports.
  • FracFocus.org
